Create an AI agent
Five ways to create a Whatsable AI agent: chat with an assistant that fills in the form, paste a result from your own AI, fill in the form yourself, duplicate an agent, or start from the draft built from your website at sign-up.
Every way below ends in the same editor, where you read and change the fields before anything answers a customer. A new agent is a Draft until you choose Save and go live, and a draft never writes to a customer.
You need the owner or Admin role, and a plan with AI agents (see AI agents).
Start from the AI agents page
Open AI agents in the main menu and click Create agent. The page asks How do you want to set up your agent? and offers three ways:
| Choice | Best when |
|---|---|
| Set it up by chatting | You want to answer a few questions and let an assistant write the settings. |
| Fill in the form myself | You already know what to write. |
| Use your own AI | ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or another AI already knows your business. |
Set it up by chatting
The editor opens with an assistant beside the form. It asks about your business, how the agent should sound, and when it should hand a conversation to a person.
- Answer its questions in the chat. You can attach files and paste website addresses.
- As you answer, the assistant fills in the form. The sections it changed are highlighted, and each turn lists the fields it changed, with Undo these changes.
- Click End conversation whenever you are done. Every section you did not review keeps its defaults.
- Read the form, then click Save draft or Save and go live.
Nothing is saved until you save the agent. Files you attach are uploaded when you save. A website address you paste waits in Knowledge base until you confirm that you own the site or may use its content.
On an agent you already have, Improve my agent opens the same assistant over its current settings.
Use your own AI
Your own AI may already know your products, prices and policies from earlier conversations or a project. This way uses that knowledge.
Copy the prompt
Choose Use your own AI, pick the Prompt language your AI should talk to you in, and click Copy prompt.
Answer your AI
Paste the prompt into your AI, ideally inside the project or conversation that already knows your business. It proposes each section from what it knows, asks you to confirm or correct it, and asks which language your customers write in. It is told never to invent a price, an address or a policy.
Paste the result back
At the end your AI gives you one block of text. Click I have the result, paste the whole block, and click Import into the editor.
Review and save
The editor opens with the imported values. If something could not be imported, a notice lists it so you can set it by hand. Files your AI listed appear as a checklist: upload each one yourself, because a file cannot travel through a paste. Then save the agent.
The import never saves an agent by itself. Labels your AI named must already exist in Settings, Labels; the notice names any that do not.
Fill in the form yourself
Choose Fill in the form myself to open the empty editor. Only a name and a mission are required to save. Every other section has a working default. See Configure an AI agent for each field.
Duplicate an agent
On the AI agents page, open the ⋮ menu of an agent and choose Duplicate, then confirm. The copy:
- is named after the original with (Copy) added, and starts as a Draft,
- has the same settings, knowledge files, files it can send, and websites,
- keeps none of what the original did: its numbers, conversations, ratings and test scenarios stay with the original.
Use a copy to try a change safely, or to build a second agent for another number or language. A price that appears only in a copied website document is quoted after someone on your team opens that document in the copy. Until then, the copy hands that question to a person.
The draft from your website at sign-up
When you sign up, the first setup screen asks for your website and analyzes it. On a plan with AI agents, Whatsable then writes a first agent for you from what it found: a name, a mission, a tone, facts about your business, and the words and situations that should hand a conversation to a person. If the site could not be read, you get a simpler draft to complete. You find it on the AI agents page when setup is finished.
That agent is always a Draft: it answers no customer until you review it and choose Save and go live. The website itself is not added as a knowledge source, so you can add it under Knowledge base in the editor if you want the agent to keep reading it.
After you create it
- Click Save draft, then test it in Test your agent, beside the editor. The test uses your unsaved changes too, and nothing there goes to WhatsApp.
- Save it live, and choose which numbers it answers on. See which agent answers on which number.
- Watch its first conversations in the inbox, and rate its decisions to improve it.
AI agents
An AI agent answers your WhatsApp customers from your own knowledge, labels conversations, follows up when a lead goes quiet, and hands the chat to a person when it should.
Configure an AI agent
Every section of the Whatsable AI agent editor: identity, knowledge files and websites, files it can send, instructions, replies, labels, handoff, follow-ups, the test panel, and how ratings become suggested changes.
