Connect VS Code
Add WhatsAble to VS Code as an MCP server, sign in, and use its tools from GitHub Copilot's agent mode.
VS Code runs MCP tools from GitHub Copilot Chat, in agent mode. You need the GitHub Copilot extension. On WhatsAble, you need to be an owner or an admin, on a plan that includes the API. See What you need.
Add the server
Add it
Open the Command Palette and run MCP: Add Server. Choose HTTP, enter the URL, and name it whatsable:
https://api.whatsable.app/mcpChoose Global to use it in every workspace, or Workspace to save it in this folder's .vscode/mcp.json.
Or write the entry yourself. VS Code's mcp.json uses servers, not mcpServers:
{
"servers": {
"whatsable": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://api.whatsable.app/mcp"
}
}
}Sign in
VS Code starts the server and asks to sign in to WhatsAble. Allow it. Your browser opens WhatsAble. Sign in, choose the organization, choose what VS Code can do and which numbers it can use, then Approve. Access and connections shows each page.
Use it
Open Copilot Chat and switch to Agent mode. In the tools picker, check that the WhatsAble tools are on. Then ask, for example, "What can you do with WhatsAble?". Copilot asks you to approve each tool call.
Use an API key instead
Create a key in WhatsAble under Settings > API keys. Let VS Code ask for it once and store it, so it never sits in mcp.json:
{
"inputs": [
{
"type": "promptString",
"id": "whatsable-api-key",
"description": "WhatsAble API key",
"password": true
}
],
"servers": {
"whatsable": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://api.whatsable.app/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer ${input:whatsable-api-key}"
}
}
}
}The key's own access and numbers apply.
Remove it
Run MCP: List Servers, choose WhatsAble, and remove it, or delete its entry from mcp.json. To revoke the connection, also go to Settings > API keys > Connected AI apps in WhatsAble and choose Revoke. See Revoke a connection.
