Connect Cursor
Add WhatsAble to Cursor's mcp.json, sign in, and let Cursor's agent read and send your WhatsApp messages.
On WhatsAble, you need to be an owner or an admin, on a plan that includes the API. See What you need.
Add the server
Open the MCP settings
Open Customize, then MCP, and add a new MCP server. In older versions it is Cursor Settings > Tools & MCP > New MCP Server. Cursor opens mcp.json. The file in your home folder, ~/.cursor/mcp.json, applies to every project. A .cursor/mcp.json in a project applies to that project only.
Add WhatsAble
Add whatsable under mcpServers and save:
{
"mcpServers": {
"whatsable": {
"url": "https://api.whatsable.app/mcp"
}
}
}Sign in
Back in the MCP settings, WhatsAble shows that it needs a login. Choose Connect. Your browser opens WhatsAble. Sign in, choose the organization, choose what Cursor can do and which numbers it can use, then Approve. Access and connections shows each page.
Your browser then asks to open Cursor. Allow it, so Cursor receives the sign-in.
Once WhatsAble shows its tools in the MCP settings, ask Cursor's agent, for example, "What can you do with WhatsAble?". The agent asks you to approve each tool call, unless you allowed it to run tools by itself.
Use an API key instead
Create a key in WhatsAble under Settings > API keys. Put it in an environment variable, such as WHATSABLE_API_KEY, and read it from mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"whatsable": {
"url": "https://api.whatsable.app/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer ${env:WHATSABLE_API_KEY}"
}
}
}
}The key's own access and numbers apply. Never write the key itself into a .cursor/mcp.json that you commit.
Remove it
Delete the whatsable entry from mcp.json, or turn it off in the MCP settings. To revoke the connection, also go to Settings > API keys > Connected AI apps in WhatsAble and choose Revoke. See Revoke a connection.
Problems
- Connect does nothing: choose the Needs login text under the server name instead. If the browser still does not open, the sign-in link is in Cursor's Output panel, under MCP.
- The browser signed in but Cursor still needs a login: your browser blocked the link back to Cursor. Allow it and connect again.
