WhatsAble
Connect your AI app

Connect ChatGPT

Add WhatsAble to ChatGPT as a custom app in developer mode, then ask ChatGPT to read and send your WhatsApp messages.

ChatGPT connects to WhatsAble as a custom app, which needs developer mode. Developer mode is a beta feature of ChatGPT on the web. On a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, an admin must allow it first.

You need: ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu to use every tool. On Plus and Pro, OpenAI may limit custom apps to tools that only read, so the assistant can look things up but not send. You add the app on the web, at chatgpt.com. On WhatsAble, you need to be an owner or an admin, on a plan that includes the API. See What you need.

OpenAI moves these settings often. In some versions the section is named Connectors or Plugins instead of Apps, and the developer mode switch is under Settings > Security.

Add the app

Turn on developer mode

In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.

On a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, an admin turns it on for the workspace first, in the workspace settings under Permissions & roles.

Create the app

In Settings > Apps, choose Create app. Fill in:

  • Name: WhatsAble
  • MCP server URL: https://api.whatsable.app/mcp
  • Authentication: OAuth

Tick I understand and want to continue, then choose Create.

Sign in to WhatsAble and approve

ChatGPT opens WhatsAble. Sign in, choose the organization, choose what ChatGPT can do and which numbers it can use, then Approve. Access and connections shows each page.

ChatGPT then lists the WhatsAble tools. Check that you see the tools you expect: with Read only, for example, there is no send tool.

Use it in a chat

Start a new chat, choose + in the message box, then Developer mode, and select WhatsAble. Then ask, for example, "What can you do with WhatsAble?" or "Who wrote to us today?".

ChatGPT asks you to confirm every tool that sends or changes something. Read the details before you confirm: each send is a real WhatsApp message.

After WhatsAble adds tools

ChatGPT keeps the list of tools it read when you created the app. When WhatsAble adds tools, or you connect a new number, open Settings > Apps, choose WhatsAble, and choose Refresh.

Remove it

In Settings > Apps, choose WhatsAble, then delete or disconnect it. This removes it from ChatGPT only. To revoke the connection, also go to Settings > API keys > Connected AI apps in WhatsAble and choose Revoke. See Revoke a connection.

Problems

  • No Create app button: developer mode is off, or your plan or workspace does not allow it.
  • ChatGPT says the app has no tools: the sign-in did not finish. Delete the app and create it again.
  • The tools changed and ChatGPT does not see it: use Refresh, as above.
